Lakeland receives Provincial Award

2018 Project of the Year Award – Historic Restoration / Preservation

February 5, 2019 – Lakeland Holding’s subsidiary Bracebridge Generation Ltd. are proud to announce that they are the recipients of the OPWA (Ontario Public Works Association) 2018 Project of the Year Award in the category of Historic Restoration / Preservation for the successful upgrade of the Cascade Street Generating Station located in Parry Sound.

The award ceremony took place on January 24, 2019 during the OPWA annual conference and was attended by Bracebridge Generation. The OPWA Awards Program was established to recognize outstanding individuals, groups and agencies who have demonstrated discipline, vision and passion. The Awards Program also provides an opportunity to reward industry leaders who are truly dedicated to making a difference.

“The redevelopment of the Cascade Street Generating Station was a large undertaking for theGeneration team”, said Bryan Ingram Operations Manager. “Working closely with the Town ofParry Sound, and experienced contractors such as Maple Reinders Constructors Ltd, WSP Canada Inc. and Vision Architectural Envelope Solutions Inc. contributed to the successful implementation of this project”.

The 1.21 megawatt Generating Station underwent a redevelopment to 3.1 megawatts. Thestation’s upgrade had been in the planning stages since 2003 under the former Parry Sound PowerGen which merged into Bracebridge Generation on July 1, 2014. Bracebridge Generation utilized a local Aesthetic Advisory Committee of residents from Parry Sound for station design. At full capacity this newly upgraded plant at a cost of $17M supplies approximately 3,150 homes with their electrical energy demands.
