CHEC Celebrates 25 Years

September 11, 2025

Barrie, ON – Cornerstone Hydro Electric Concepts is pleased to announce the celebration of 25 years as an Association. Since 2000, CHEC has been a unique, collaborative organization within the Ontario electrical distribution industry, helping its members thrive and remain as essential members of their communities.

“It’s a testament to the strength of the collaboration within the organization that it has remained relevant for the last twenty-five years during significant change in the electrical distribution industry,” said Tim Curtis, Chair of the CHEC Board. “The member LDCs and the CHEC staff have demonstrated their ability to adapt to the changes in the industry and continue to add value.”

CHEC currently has 16 members, made up of many mid- to small sized LDCs in the province. Through sharing resources and working together, they streamline their operations and provide safe, reliable, efficient electricity to their customers. Even as some of the smaller LDCs in the province, many of them rank as some of the most efficient in the annual Scorecard from the Ontario Energy Board.

“CHEC provides support and collaboration across the full breadth of LDC operations,” said Bruno Pereira, CHEC President. “Whether it’s through group procurements, CIS support, regulatory guidance or networking with others facing similar challenges, there are a multitude of ways that CHEC is actively assisting our members to save time and costs.”

The following objectives were established when CHEC was first formed in 2000, many of which are still relevant today.

  1. Delivering benefits of consolidation, without loss of individual control
  2. Achieving scale, without relinquishing accountability
  3. Cost effective solutions for improving operating and delivery standards within each of the member companies.

CHEC would like to thank its Board of Directors, the CHEC staff, and all of its members for their commitment and dedication to the success of the organization.
